Week 6. Beyond The Shadows.

Due to the fact that my days have been basically hibernating in a Theater, I had no new photos to post. So instead, I am using my one blog where I can use an old photo and in spirit of being in Tech  week for two weeks straight and working on so many shows this quarter,I wanted to use a theatre lighting picture! I recently (at the beginning of this quarter) Stage Managed and Independent Project in The Nixon for five of the grads at UCI, and I ran the lighting board for the first time! With this being said, designing and programing lights take so much more skill then pressing the "GO" button. I, however found this a large step into not being totally afraid of the light board and not knowing how to work it. This picture is of Sam Arnold, In Progression: A Song Cycle. I love this picture because it definitely plays with dimensions and also has a strong shadow on some of his body. It also looks like he stands out, but could be engulfed in the darkness at any time. This song he was singing, was about reflection and mourning, so I think the simplicity and focus of the lights, really helped bring out this simplicity and reflection. I also love Sam's reflection off of the stage. This show in particular will have a very dear place in my heart.
Au Revoir,
A

  1. Very nice analysis of the lighting design and the emotional state of the actor - this will serve you well in your lighting crit paper at the end of the quarter
